R2-KT from The Official Star Wars Blog

Game producer Dave Degnan has been kind enough to donate a limited edition R2-KT droid figure for one lucky winner at Be Excellent to Each Other 2009. Besides being a sweet collectible from the vaults of Star Wars, the droid has an amazing story:

November 13, 2004: a little girl named Katie Johnson was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was a sad, sad day to be sure. Her father, Albin Johnson, was the founder of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars costuming fan club that did charity work all over the world. Over 4000 501st Legion members and countless more Star Wars fans rallied together to support the ailing child.

Another fan group figured out how to make a lifesize droid to watch over Katie duringĀ treatmentsĀ and it was eventually turned into an official action figure after Katie passed in 2005. The one that we’ll have at our event is from the original run, sold only at Comic Con with original proceeds benefiting Make-a-Wish.
